The "Robbiana" ceramics over the entrance of the chapel
Luca, Andrea,Giovanni and Donatello della Robbia were the most representative artists in Florence between the beginning of 1400 and the first half of 1500, for what ceramics is concerned.
The success of their glazed ceramics lies in the particular kind of glaze they used, of which Vasari ( the most important historian of the time ) will write " nè acqua, nè vento potessero offendere " ( Nor water, nor wind could ruin them ). There is a legend according to which the formula of this particular glaze is inside the head of one of the angels made of pottery. Maybe is be one of the angels which adorn Il Palagio?
